Restoring Your Smile

Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth can not only affect your smile’s appearance but also hinder your ability to chew comfortably. Crowns and bridges are versatile dental restorations that can offer a durable and natural-looking solution to these concerns.

Crowns are used to cover a damaged tooth, while bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. Both treatments can help restore function and improve the aesthetics of your smile.

Our team at Deerfoot Dental Centre is with you throughout your treatment. Contact us to schedule your appointment.

Restoring Strength to Your Teeth

Crowns and bridges are great options for addressing a variety of dental concerns. Crowns, often called “caps,” are custom-made to fit snugly over a damaged or weakened tooth, helping to restore its strength, shape, and size.

Bridges, however, literally help bridge the gap created by missing teeth. They consist of artificial teeth supported by dental crowns placed on the surrounding healthy teeth.

Preparing for Your Crown or Bridge Procedure

We offer a comprehensive patient experience from the initial consultation to the treatment day and aftercare instructions.

Our team will be sure to explain what you can expect and answer any questions or concerns you may have about your crown or bridge procedure.

During your initial consultation, we will thoroughly examine your teeth, discuss your concerns, and determine if a crown or bridge is the best course of action. X-rays may be required to assess the health of the tooth and jawbone.

For crowns, the tooth will be numbed with a local anesthetic, and any necessary reshaping will be done to prepare for the crown placement. A temporary crown will be placed while the permanent crown is custom-made in a dental lab to match your surrounding teeth perfectly.

For bridges, the supporting teeth will be prepared for crowns, and a temporary bridge may be placed. The permanent crown or bridge will be securely cemented during your next visit.

Our team will provide specific aftercare instructions following your crown or bridge placement. Generally, good oral hygiene practices like brushing and flossing twice daily are essential for maintaining the longevity of your restorations.

The Importance of Addressing Dental Concerns

Leaving a damaged or missing tooth untreated can lead to different complications, including:

  • Shifting Teeth: Missing teeth can cause surrounding teeth to shift out of place, affecting your bite and overall oral health.
  • Difficulty Chewing: Damaged or missing teeth can make it difficult to chew properly, leading to digestive problems.
  • Speech Impediments: Gaps or missing teeth can affect your speech.

Crowns and bridges can help offer a long-lasting and effective solution to these concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions About Crowns & Bridges

What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?

A crown is used to cover and protect a single damaged or weakened tooth, while a bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Both restore function and improve the appearance of your smile, but they solve different problems, which is why we assess your needs before recommending one.

What is a dental crown used for?

A crown, often called a cap, is custom-made to fit snugly over a damaged or weakened tooth. It helps restore the tooth’s strength, shape, and size, protecting it so you can chew and smile comfortably again.

How does a dental bridge work?

A bridge literally bridges the gap left by missing teeth. It consists of artificial teeth supported by dental crowns placed on the healthy teeth on either side of the gap, restoring both the look and the function of your smile.

What happens if I leave a damaged or missing tooth untreated?

Leaving a tooth untreated can lead to several complications. Surrounding teeth can shift out of place and affect your bite, chewing can become difficult and lead to digestive issues, and gaps or missing teeth can affect your speech. Crowns and bridges offer a long-lasting solution to these concerns.

What can I expect during the crown or bridge process?

We offer a comprehensive experience from the initial consultation through to the treatment day and aftercare instructions. Our team explains what you can expect at each stage and is happy to answer any questions or concerns you have about your crown or bridge procedure.

Are crowns and bridges a long-lasting solution?

Yes. Crowns and bridges are durable, natural-looking restorations designed to restore both the beauty and the function of your smile. With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, they offer a long-lasting and effective solution for damaged or missing teeth.

Amazing experience with both the hygienist Jessica and Dr. Shoor. I recently had a night-guard made and the process was so smooth. They both were super kind, gentle, and made me feel comfortable throughout the appointment. Very professional and welcoming team. If anyone is looking for a new dentist/hygienist that truly cares, I highly recommend!!
